Apple has marked this year’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) with significant operational developments, including a hefty visual revamp across its platforms. Among the highlights are round icons on the home screen and a redesigned Control Center.
This marks the first major redesign since iOS 7, which Apple is touting as “our broadest design update ever.” All devices will showcase this new, uniform aesthetic featuring a material dubbed “liquid glass.” This semi-transparent theme will be evident across widgets, icons, and a new all-clear mode that complements both light and dark modes.
In addition to aesthetics, Apple has confirmed it will rebrand its operating systems. So, instead of iOS 19, users will see iOS 26 later this year. This change applies across the board: iPadOS will also be iPadOS 26, and MacOS will follow suit with MacOS 26. However, the company will retain its California-inspired naming convention for MacOS, with the new version called Tahoe.
The WWDC has unveiled several promising iOS 26 features, such as typing indicators for group chats and live translations in iMessage, FaceTime, and phone calls—regardless of the recipient’s device availability.
